Summer Activities in Minnesota
The shovels have been put away and patio furniture is making its return from storage. Along with making plans to enjoy the warm temperatures at home, families everywhere in Minnesota are shifting gears and making plans for summer day trips and getaways. Whether you’re looking for arts experiences or family-friendly entertainment, there is something for everyone during the summer in Minnesota. Here are our favorite warm weather activities:
Family Amusement/Sports: Outdoor sports activities occur throughout the state with our beloved Minnesota Twins, St. Paul Saints and many other minor league and regional baseball teams. We have Valleyfair for amusement park fun (rides and entertainment) and Minnesota county fairs are sprinkled throughout the summer with rides, farm animals and local crafts. The Minneapolis Aquatennial occurs every July and let’s not forget “The Great Minnesota Get Together” (the Minnesota State Fair) in August. Zoos are a great family adventure on any day of the week.
Arts and Culture: The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is a great way to spend an afternoon and so are the many other museums and historical sites throughout the state. Outdoor music is offered at many venues like the Lake Harriet Band Shell and many communities host free summer concert series at area parks. Local farmers markets are a wonderful field trip for home-grown produce and flowers. Art Fairs like the Edina Art Fair and Grand Old Days not only showcase quality artisans and craftsmen, but it’s a great way to stroll and see the city.
Golf: With nearly 400 golf courses to choose from, Minnesota is a golfers dream. Minnesota golf courses are characterized by beautiful nature settings, great conditions, available at a wide-range of price points, and are found in every community in the state.
Outdoors/Nature: Not only do we have over 10,000 lakes to play in, Minnesota has miles and miles of trails for biking and hiking (over 1,200 miles, actually). Our state also has two national forests, a national park, and over 65 state parks where you can camp, explore, hike and enjoy someplace new every weekend!
Wineries/Breweries: New to the Minnesota destination scene are vineyards and breweries. Take a day-trip and taste some local wines and beers. Minnesota is now ranked in the top 10 for U.S. craft beer production! Another fun adult-adventure is the Pedal Pub, where you ‘pedal’ your way around the cities, while enjoying a cold beverage of your choice.
There are so many other exciting things to do over the warm weather months in Minnesota – too many to list. Regardless of what you and your family love to do – you will find choices galore and be happily active and entertained for the entire warm weather season.
