Beat the heat this summer with these tips to stay comfy.
Yes, it feels like summer has just begun in Minnesota. However, since we spend so many months out of the year in the bitter cold, we need some reminders on how to stay comfy and cool during summer’s hottest days. Here are five tips to keep your cool in the heat.
Slick on Lotion and Stick to the Shade
The most important part of a day in the sun is sunscreen. Load up on a good SPF and reapply several times during the day, especially if you are in and out of water. Between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. is the hottest part of the day. Try to limit your time in the sun and stay near shady areas.
Lighter colored, loose clothing is a good choice while spending time in the sunshine. Stick to lightweight shirts and shorts in lighter colors. Not only will it keep you comfortable, you’ll also be styling in trendy summer colors.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!
Drinking water throughout the day is essential for staying healthy during hot summer days. If you’re sitting by the lake all day, keep a cooler filled with your favorite summer drinks nearby, but limit your alcohol intake which can actually dehydrate you. Can’t stomach plain water all day? Choose a favorite flavored sweetener to keep things cool and fruity.
Get in the Water
As Minnesotans, we are lucky to be practically surrounded by water. Take advantage of it! Grab a towel, your swimsuit, a cooler and hit the beach. Though the air temperature may be warm, lake water is the most refreshing way to cool off. Make sure to reapply sunscreen after taking a dip. Don’t have easy access to a lake? Hook up the hose and sprinkler and get ready for a splashing good time.
We All Scream for Ice Cream
What goes better with summer than eating your favorite frozen treat? Take a break in the shade, channel your inner kid and enjoy a fruit flavored popsicle, ice cream cone or freeze pop.
Would you rather enjoy summer from the inside? Besides cranking your Carrier air conditioner, close your blinds in rooms you don’t use often to keep the sunshine out and keep the room cooler. Once the sun goes down, you and your family can stay comfy in your home with your air conditioner from Carrier.
