Don’t forget to change your furnace filter!

When was the last time you changed your furnace filter? 30 days ago? 60 days ago? More than that???

A good rule of thumb is to change 1″ filters every 30-60 days, and 4″ filters every 4-6 months. Changing your furnace filter on a regular basis will ensure that your heating equipment is running at its maximum efficiency.

Our rule of thumb is a good place to start, but there are some other factors you may want to take into consideration to ensure that your furnace filter is changed at the proper time.

  • If you live in a location that is very dusty you will need to change your filter more often than if you live in a low dust area.
  • Air filters generally need to be changed more often in summer months than in winter months when the ground is covered with snow.
  • Equipment that does not operate continuously will not require as many filter changes as equipment that is always operating. Between heating and cooling seasons are typically low usage times.
