Saving money on energy costs : New Year’s resolutions for your home check-in

We’re almost through the month of January! A month in to 2012! Remember back in December when we talked about making New Year’s resolutions for your home? Things you could do around your house that will keep your home healthier, save you money and make the environment happy!

Here’s a quick refreshers on our money and energy saving tips:

How often should I change my furnace filter?
Change your furnace filter often. The general rule of thumb is to change the filter in your furnace every 30 days. A dirty furnace filter not only prevents air flow throughout your home, but it also causes the blower inside your furnace to work harder and creates a potential for the motor itself to fail.

How do I get my furnace ready for winter?
We’ll let Danny take this one…

How do I get my air conditioner ready for summer?
Keep leaves, grass clippings, and dirt from building up around your air conditioner this summer. This can be done with a broom, vacuum cleaner, or water hose.

And don’t forget, you can get the whole family involved with energy saving at home!
